I wonder how expensive food is in Houston as compare to NJ? Our family of 4 (2 adults and two toddlers) spends around 1200, no luxuries included. How much do you leave in supermarket?

Family of 3 (2 adults, 1 boy,6) if I shop at whole foods 250-300 a week. If shop at my local HEB or Randall's 150-200$ a week. I could spend less if I compare price before I buy but at this point in life I just don't.

The way we shop for just 2 people using coupons, specials, reward points etc about $500 a month for everything we need including splurging on things.

I suggest you go to a local grocery store's website (like HEB) and input a Houston zip code to look at the weekly ads and compare your own grocery list. Over the course of several weeks, you should find enough like items to get a better idea of what your grocery cost will be. When I moved
from New Orleans, I noticed that the items I normally purchased where less expensive here.

About the same here for us. We don't bargain / coupon shop, just get what we need.

With 2 adults and 3 kids we spend around $1500. I don't bargain shop...just get what we need and want. I do buy all organic produce, milk, cheese, etc. I try and buy the least processed food possible. I also like to buy my meats at whole foods. Then my kids add all the junk/unhealthy stuff!! If it was just me shopping our bill would be much cheaper. The kids crap really increases the bill.

We do unfortunately waste a lot of food. I have good intentions to cook every night but we end up going out to dinner a lot.

For 5 of us (2 adults and 3 kids, ages 4-9), I spend about $1000 a month. I shop mainly at HEB, Trader Joe's, and Costco. I will go to Kroger sometimes when there is something I want on sale. We eat really well...lots of fresh veggies, fruits, etc.

Two adults, one 11 year old (and an infant but he's still a few months away from eating into our grocery budget). We spend about 150/200 per week shopping primarily at HEB and Kroger. This budget includes lunches for the 11 year old. We eat out 1/2 nights per week on average.
