Hello,

I am looking to replace our living room carpet which is 13.5 X 15.5

The carpet i am going to buy is 12 feet width roll. if I buy 12X13.5 then i left with 2X15.5 to fill.

Is it ok if I just get additional 12X4 and cut it to fit the 2X15.5 fill ? or is it recommended to get another 12X15.5 roll and cut 2 feet and the 10X15.5 leftover will be wasted. I just don't want to waste lot of money on wasted carpet. let me know your thought on this approach.

thx

If you're going with wall-to-wall carpet and the room is wider than a 12' roll, it's best to have the carpet store professionally cut, seam and install the carpet for you. Otherwise, you're likely to wind up with mismatched texture and an obviously cheap look. Some carpet textures are notoriously difficult to match so the seams aren't noticeable. A knowledgeable carpet sales person will be able to advise you about how much to buy -- you might pay more, but the results are so worth it!

Save and store some of the wasted pieces to patch the new carpet if a spot becomes irreparably damaged (it happens!). Also, you could have the edges bound to use as throw rugs or inside door mats.

A 12x18.5 will be enough for a pro. Or look for 15' wide carpet and get a 15 x15.5, that is what I would do.
