We are having to move the week before Christmas. It'll take us 3-4 days to get to Houston, so we Should be there the evening of December 19th, does anyone have ideas of what we could do to get into the Holiday. We are near Katy, just off I-10, but willing to branch out and want to get to know the city a little...

My son is 13 and not picky and my husband loves me enough to do anything cheesy!

If you don't mind a little drive, head down to Galveston for Dickens On The Strand ( Dickens on The Strand ) and over to Moody Gardens for the Festival Of Lights ( Moody Gardens Theme Park | Penguin Exhibits | 3D & 4D Theaters | Aquarium Pyramid® ).

You can also shoot over and up to Old Town Spring for the Home For The Holidays festival ( http://oldtownspring.com/home-for-the-holidays-2/ )

But, if you absolutely adore sitting in traffic, head on over to the Galleria for insanity (I mean shopping), lot's of Christmas decorations and the ice skating rink. You have to do it at least once so you can swear off ever doing it again.

Discovery Green is a fun park downtown. They have an outdoor ice rink this time of year, and they sell hot chocolate, there's also a nice burger place for lunch. Great place for a holiday outing.

Either Bayou Bend or Rienzi (two houses that are part of the Museum of Fine Arts, showcasing decorative arts) has holiday decorations; you could check the MFAH website to see what's going on there.

Dickens on the Strand in Galveston is Dec. 6-8., so the OP will miss this year's celebration.

+1 on Discovery Green

Also, how about watching A Christmas Carol at the Alley Theatre or the Nutcracker at the Houston Ballet? Both are traditions here in Houston.
