Confused by this, the reason people are moving to Houston is because it has jobs, if (or when) there is another oil bust the price will decrease and people will leave to....

Totally agree. These suburbs are expensive and tend to have more buyers than inventory.

I'd put it at about the level of Memphis, though Memphis is cooler because of its musical history. So when you come here, and you see how high the rents are to live in the precious "core" you really aren't flabbergasted at the price, you're flabbergasted that the price is so high in Houston. Unlike all the other cities I've mentioned, Houston doesn't have much of the "it" factor that those other cities have. This may be because we're all just a bunch of durned workin' fools who the whole rest of America oughta learn from, but it doesn't make for an attractive place to live. Us "carpetbaggers" pay high rents here resentfully because of where we are--not the price.

There's many a people who move to Nashville to see half of the CMT lineup walking down the street. Who will you see in Houston? Some Texan players? Rockets? Astros? A city booming with celebrities has an "It" factor so that puts Nashville on a more desirable list over Houston.

A lot of people do want to live in a celeb centered city like that. Nashville has a rich musical history. No music I like but it's famous.

jerber described Houston really good. We have no "it" thing. We have food, musiums, etc yeah but nothing tghat's exclusive to us. Nashville is Country Music mecca, that's exclusive. Boston, NYC, etc.

Now I don't know about Austin, Portland and Charlotte...

Austin supposedly gets more celeb sightings than Houston but I wouldn't say Austin is really all raft more desirable than Houston.
