I would look at Fleetwood or surrounding neighborhoods. Zoned to Taylor HS in Katy. Elem and middle is also Katy ISD. I have friends whose kids attend Wolfe Elementary and they love it. You should find a nice house in that price range. I agree that $700K will not buy you much in Memorial.

Yes, and now Rummel Creek moves into the Double Wides in the Fall, while it gets rebuilt.

If you are priced out of Memorial you can look at 77018 but make sure home is zoned to Oak Forest and not Stephens. I think there might be 1 or 2 new houses under 700k available unless you are fine with a tear down or older remodel in which case you can get for under 500k.

BTW I'm pretty sure a librarian and a nurse would be paid paid by the district, not the school. Either way, Rummel Creek has been Exemplary for decades on the public school scale. We've never used the public schools, but their success does determine the success of an area for the most part. And The Wilchester neighborhoods have been very solid since their construction in the 60s.

Ha - you are right! ....someone is always a poor relation to someone....
Yes - paid by district but due to state budget cuts some non-teaching staff...librarians, counselor s etc. may be shared between two schools. The PTA can pick up the other half of the salary to make the position full time at the school.

We were looking at memorial due to the commute and good school district . I agree that our budjet is very low for the area . I am seriously confused as we dont want to get pushed to Sugarland or Pearland due to commute . Slim pickins in 77055 as well !

You can get a new, larger house in SL etc but many in the Memorial area like the area for specific reasons - like older, established neighborhoods. They are all in the same boat with their 1960s homes. Similar mentality as those that buy those smaller West U homes...they could buy a huge home some where else (further out) but charm, location etc win over...

I guess this is what makes Houston great - something for everyone in various areas. And the access to good schools in different areas. People have a choice on where to spend their $. If one thinks an area is over-priced, hyped up, then they have other options.

As far as eastern 77079 prices...I think they are on course. Nothing too crazy. Catching up to hoods just a few miles east. The hoods that border the villages and west are "similar" in many respects - home style, schools, location etc.

What is your budget? Could try Ashford Forest - zoned to Meadow wood Elem. Not much for sale there right now but can find something in $400s.

Also Nottingham West - can find a small (2100-ish) home in the high $300s plus - zoned to exemplary Wilchester than Spring Forest and Stratford.

Also Westchester and Nottingham Forest 8 (west of Dairy Ashford) -$500s plus.

East of Kirkwood and Nottingham Forest will be $600 plus....except maybe the last few streets in the Nottingham neighborhood.

You could also try to find a house zoned to Barbara Bush in HISD ...77077.

That, and it's not a very transient area, and has a deep feeling of community. Many people are original owners, children of original owners that went to Memorial,Westchester or Stratford, or have siblings and parents living in the area etc. Briargrove and Tanglewood (both neighborhoods I have lived in)used to be the same way, but have changed over the years. In fact, I'm a newbie for area.
