Smile Museum district in Houston

Hi there,
Is anybody able to give me info on this particular area? I heard it is a very good area to live in and that Lamar High School is top notch. Saw some townhomes in that area that were beautiful ($350,000) and that are indeed within walking distance to many museums.
We also looked in Sugarland and have come to the decision that it would be either urban life or suburban....
Any info on or about the Museum district, prices etc and Sugarland would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time!
regards,
Debbie

It depends on where you are talking about in the "museum district." It is a moniker that has been stretched quite a bit.

Some refer to a good part of Montrose as "The Museum District" and others use it to refer to areas east of Main, north of Hermann Park & south of midtown.

To me the real Museum District is south of 59, to Rice, from about Main to Morningside or so.

That area is one of the nicest in Houston. The areas east of Main are redeveloping fast, but don't have the established character of the areas west of Main.

Lamar is in the Upper Kirby area, not the Museum District. It's not too far away, but definitely not within walking distance. Check the following link for school boundaries.

If it's important to you to live within easy access of the Museum District, but you still want to be zoned to a good high school, you may also want to consider nearby areas that are zoned to Bellaire.

Hi there,
I believe the townhomes that we looked at were on Austin corner Wichita st. School zoning would be Lamar and close to Medical Plaza. Is this considered the "nice" part of the museum district? Thanks so much.
regards

I'd love to live near the Museum District. I worked in the Rice Village/West U area years ago, and it was such a nice, relaxed environment (except at Christmas!)

that area is fast changing, but no, it is not the premier part of the museum district. That area was considered part of the 3rd ward and is only now called the museum district since it is transitioning. Its a lot more "mish-mash" over there, but again, its on the gentrification fast track. The areas on the other side of main never really went down. They just have a different character and more of a neighborhood feel. That is not to say that area is not good or a good investment, it is.
