Any recommendations for a homeowners policy?

We've been USAA customers for years but they just informed me that they can't write a policy for our new home (moving back from Massachusetts) because they are "too concentrated" in Fort Bend County (WTF?). Honestly, I've never shopped around before because we've just always gone with USAA by default.

Very very frustrating.

Last fall I used Texas Insurance Agency for flood insurance. They say that they search for the best coverage at the best possible rate. They are independent insurance agents. I'm thinking about getting a quote for my auto coverage with them.

There are pages online where if you enter information you can receive multiple quotes online or over the phone for Home insurance. We received quotes from all major insurance companies. Their rates were higher than the local ones. On an average the difference between the big companies and the local ones was around $300-$500 per yr for HOB or HO3 policies.

I have had Amica for years and they have always had stellar customer service, and have been incredible anytime a problem has come up.

How long have you been using TWFG? Have you filed any claims and how was your experience? We just got a quote for a new construction 2-story 2422 sqft for $811-944 depending on the deductible %. It's almost too good to be true.

These TWFG agents seems to be connected to American Risk Insurance. I found out about American Risk Insurance when inadvertently the lending people got a quote for me from them for my house whereas I had already selected to get Amica. Don't know how that happened. Anyway, I had them cancel their insurance for me and simply kept Amica. The prices with American Risk Insurance were too good to be true; almost 30% lower for similar coverage than Amica and I had already shopped around a lot before settling on Amica.

Has anyone ever done business with TWFG or American Risk Insurance?

Been with them for over a year now and was with the same agent on my previous home just a different carrier because we lived on the coast. Never filed a claim so can't speak for that. Those that I know have filed a claim have never had any issues.

Amica was almost $900 higher when we got a quote.

Thanks. Is yours through American Strategic Insurance as well?
