We live in West U and are thinking of bringing my widowed mother to Houston to live nearer to us from out of state. She is 75, but still very active, drives, travels, etc... She currently lives in a 55+ community and likes the companionship, activities and facilities. I have seen some of these 55+ communities outside the beltway, but realize that there won't be any large, master planned communities like that inside the loop, but is anyone aware of any areas where there are a lot of active, elderly residents near West U?

My mom looked into this for my grandfather and did quite a bit of researched. She settled on Assisted Living Facilities | Senior Communities | Brookdale Senior Living

The Terrace at West University is part of the Brookdale community and may be the closest for you.

Place on Memorial and Silver near downtown if that's of interest.

Thanks for all the tips! I've seen the Terrace before, but didn't realize what it was. Perfect location for us. The other option, of course, is to look for a house with an in-law apartment. Wish I would have thought about that before buying our house last year!

Our across the street neighbor in West U bought a bungalow down the street for his mother. She is still very independent. She can walk to her son's house to visit and/or babysit the kids, but then can go to her own home. He also has a good additional real estate investment as opposed to paying $$$ to a retirement home. The City of West U offers lots of activities for seniors.
