Pecan Grove Plantation
Anyone here live in Pecan Grove? Thoughts?
How is the commute into town? Is it near a park and ride line?
Have found a house I like in that neighborhood but I hear many negative things about Richmond which is nearby. I am moving to Houston in January - don't know where I will be working. I'm a web developer / programmer and will find work once I arrive. Work hotspots seem to be concentrated around NASA, MD Anderson, and the Galleria area for my particular language. I can only afford to spend a maximum of $250k so I doubt I can live closer in and still get a nice house.

I lived there for 13 years. Now that the Westpark Tollroad is an option it's not too bad of a drive into Houston. I wouldn't live there if I was driving to NASA though.
Sugar Land is only a few minutes further from PG than Richmond is. I enjoyed living there and would again if my job was closer. Is the house you like in Lamar or Ft. Bend school district?

Not sure which district it is in but it isn't very important to me as my kids are both in college and I plan on staying in the house for many years. How many years ago did you live there? What did you like and dislike about the area?
Thanks much for the response!

I lived in Pecan Grove for 14 years, it is an awesome neighborhood and it would be difficult to find homes of the quality and such a great neighborhood for the price point. I would agree that I would not live there if I were to commute to NASA, however the commute to the Galleria and to the medical center is not bad. Sugar Land now has several hospitals, you may want to check that area for work. I think for the price, you cannot beat the area. If you like golf, you cannot beat the country club either. Marta Mohan

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Richmond. I suppose years ago it was rather "podunk" and any data from more than a few years ago are going to be way off... but there is lots of new development of very upscale areas (Bridlewood Estates, Aliana, Old Orchard, and others) that didn't exist just a few years ago.
Some people don't think highly of some of the schools in Lamar CISD, but parts of Richmond that border with Sugar Land (Old Orchard, Aliana) are zoned to great FBISD schools. I believe Pecan Grove Plantation has good schools as well.

I love PGP. It's a great, established neighborhood. Richmond is unfortunately getting swallowed up by sprawl--something I couldn't imagine just 10 short years ago--but PGP is a gem.

I agree, it is a "Gem." That's where I'm trying to lure my in-laws to retire to (they're in CA). My FIL was impressed by Pecan Grove, when I took him to a couple open houses there. With $250K you can definitely get a lovely home and the taxes aren't bad at all. Just forget NASA and the commute to the Galleria (where a lot of the programming jobs are) is about 45 minutes.
Good luck!

What language? I'm ColdFusion and C#. ColdFusion is definitely the Galleria, Med Center, and NASA. I almost bought in Pecan Grove and kind of wish I had at this point. It is a 2 hour commute for me into the Med Center.
