At Hobby, this is the fourth consecutive year a new passenger record had been set. Traffic increased by 6.4 percent - from 10.4 million in 2012 to 11.1 million in 2013.
"We are entering a very exciting period in the rich history of Hobby Airport," says Houston Mayor Annise Parker in a statement.

At Bush, which services 68 international destinations, the international passenger was 8.9 million, an increase of 2.5 percent from 2012. The airport system attributed the increase to new international carriers, such as Air China and Turkish Airlines. Both launched nonstop service in Houston in 2013.
Houston airports report records - Houston Chronicle

An incremental increase in traffic at Houston's small-to-mid-sized airport is so much more unimportant than the continued growth of international traffic @ Bush, yet 2nd tier Hobby is apparently what the citys mayor chooses to brag about.
Thanks to Bush hub carrier United Airlines and its global alliance partners like Air China & Turkish Airlines, Bush is continuing to add service but it's going to be some continued really stiff competition against the big boys in the neighborhood with Delta having the largest hub at the largest airport in ATL and American in the process of being stronger than ever at DFW after it's merger with US Airlines. And it's no help to United when the mayor continues to favor the smaller and much less significant Hobby airport and primary carrier Southwest.

Especially when AA's partner airline decides to expand service to IAH instead of adding more flights to DFW.

Korean Air reportedly to start nonstop air service between Houston and Seoul, South Korea - Houston Business Journal

Keep beating that drum Jim, eventually someone will buy into your Chicken Little arguments.

Korean Air isn't partnered with American Airlines (they are partnered with Delta Airlines however as they are both in the SkyTeam alliance).

Agree with your overall point though.

I always get KAL and JAL as to who is in what alliance. Same with BA and KLM. The disadvantage of living in a *A hub.

What's Chicken Little about my comments ? I would just like to see Houston get a mayor who's as interested in
supporting the growth of long-haul international service (both passenger and cargo) at Bush as she is in pushing burrito-specials into Mexico on the cattle-car service @ Hobby. Is that woman mayor for life, will they ever get a real pro-business person in city hall in Houston, TX ?

Don't underestimate the value of those burrito specials. Not only there but all of the destinations even further south. As a politician you have to cater to the pluarality, very soon to be majority.

Mayor Parker has to run an entire city, Mario Diaz is very involved in getting new long haul flights out of Houston.

As usual, you are over-reacting. The mayor made a positive comment about Hobby. She did NOT make a negative comment about Bush. To read that as denigrating Bush is your typical reaction to anything airport related.

Hobby deserves the accolades, as it is going to boom for years. So she says something to acknowledge it. That doesn't mean Bush is our junior airport. It doesn't mean Bush won't get upgrades and attention.

Find something else to cry about.
