Get a public defender, find a Salvation Army, and quit shoplifting.

An acqauntance did this and she didn't have a lawyer either. She claimed no contest to the charges, she served 2 or 3 years of probation and then the charges were wiped from her record. If she had offended again while on probation then she would have had the charge on her record and suffered more strict charges.

No her criminal record shows no convictions. This is a plea you can make in Texas. You can use it for traffic tickets AND like my friend did for shoplifting.

Details of your situation are sketchy. If this is your first time being charged with a crime, you are probably scared. It is understandable. Keep in mind that people have been arrested for shoplifting as little as $5 worth of merchandise. In the state of TX, a $300 theft is a class B misdemeanor, which is a minor crime with a minor penalty. As suggested above, it's best that you have legal advice from an attorney. Good luck.

I just read Lindsey's post. That's even better if you can find a way to avoid having a criminal record.

Do not pass Go.
Go directly to jail.
That is what you deserve.
No sympathy here.
You make honest people pay more for products to cover the cost of loss to thieves like you.
Unfortunately, you will probably just get a slap on the wrist.
I sure would like to be the Judge handling your case.
I have no problem with giving thieves what they deserve instead of lolly gagging with plea bargains and letting them off like they did nothing wrong.
The justice system is too lenient about petty crimes. That is why there is so much of it going on and it only leads to more serious crimes by individuals that have no regard for what is right and wrong.
If your baby had no clothes to wear I am sure there are those that would have helped you if you would have just ask.
You said you know it was wrong and it might be fun.
Will it be fun for your child when you are in jail and can't take care of the kid?
I pity your poor child. You should be ashamed of the example you are setting. Your actions should really make him/her proud of you at some point in the future. NOT
Sure hope the kid don't turn out like you.

Just wanted to let you Texans know that you have an AWESOME travel guide. We got ours the other day. Each area had something nice to offer, BUT the Gulf Coast wins hands down with me.

Since you live there you're probably not interested, but you can go online and get one. They have some pretty neat info and pics in it.

Google Maps finally has up-to-date satellite images of Houston. The Toyota Center is actually "finished" and Astroworld really is gone now. Just thought I'd share...
