Nope, just too expensive for the average joe. Maybe they all read that article in the NYT somebody posted a couple of weeks ago about how Houston is more middle-class friendly.

Maybe more New Yorkers will make us a more cosmopolitan city and less of a provincial backwater where high school football occasionally makes an appearance on the chron.com front page.

I've spent many a summer in Manhattan, a majority of New Yorkers are NOT cosmopolitan.

I actually like the city. I was making a joke, since New Yorkers talk about how horrible Houston is......yet they are moving here in droves.

I don't think that many New Yorkers talk badly about Houston. Most of the ones I know who have visited like it down here. My friend, a born-and-bred New Yorker, just moved to the suburbs in Jersey last year and is considering moving down here in a few years. She loves all the space, the people, the food, the housing, the "newness"... But I agree that New Yorkers can be rather provincial.

Actually - I have zero interest in being any kind of city that New Yorkers make it - if I wanted that, I'd live in New York. While I enjoy visiting New York and what they have to offer, that is the extent of it. I like that all cities are unique (the good and the bad) but I also Houston and Texas for that matter as it is.

EasilyAmused hasn't posted since 09/11/08 - has she ever gone that long without posting before? Does anyone know if she is doing OK?

I'm picturing EasilyAmused sitting on a beach in Tahiti sipping mai tais while waiting for word her power is back on.

My neighbor is still in Austin even though our area only lost power for less than a day. He decided to take this opportunity and turn it into an extended mini-vacation. EA's probably doing the same. She should check in, though.

I don't think we've heard from Mr. Football in a while either.

First she said she was going to Austin, then she said she decided to hunker down...so I don't know. I've been wondering about her myself.

She's in that bunker in Nevada with JFK, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix.

My concern is that she'll OD.
