I recenlty moved from Miami to Katy. At first I loved it here, but now I am really missing Miami. The culture, the palm trees, the beach, ect...
I would love to here from others who have moved here from Miami. How are you adapting.

I'm not from Miami, but I am a Florida Keys fanatic and hubby and I hope to retire there. I personally LOVE Miami--South Beach, West Palm, Coconut Grove, etc...it's a far cry from Katy most certainly! The only thing that I don't miss are the people in Miami. I think the folks in Katy are far more friendly and open. Have you met many people here?

While I am not from Miama, I did go to college in Corpus Christi from 2002-2006 and aswell, I miss the palm trees, beautiful sunsets, sand, having an awesome tan, and beautiful women in bikinis. The only difference is there isn't the money next to the beach like there is here. So, I ended up here, which is where I grew up. You just need to find the fun things to do around town and get into new things. I have fit in my grove and have a blast in this crazy city.

Warning: DO NOT visit our coast if you haven't yet. I'm afraid it would just make you miss the waters of Miami even more.

Over by Fiesta Supermarket #7 at Bellaire and Hillcroft, you will find a whole bunch of cubans drinking espresso in the coffee area. A few blocks from there is Bissonnet st. and there you will find Piquet cuban restaurant. Al ot of cubans live in nearby apartments.

If you are looking for people of common interests, then you may want to check out MeetUp Meetup: World's largest community of local Meetups, clubs and groups! Click on Houston and you will see a list of social groups within the Houston area that may interest you.

I too reside in Katy, but my social life is within the city of Houston. I relocated here from the east coast two years ago. So, I understand how you feel. You probably will have to explore the many activities and social circles within Houston city instead of Katy.

If you own a home there are a number of suitable palms and subtropical plants for your yard, I know people from horribly cold areas (like North Carolina) that would kill to be able to grow all the subtropical plants you can get away with in Houston. Sure it'll look more like Orlando than Miami, but still
