North Cypress? Too far from the Conoco campus.

I hate 290 and the routes towards Cypress. Major congestion. Not to mention you can't go north on the Beltway from I-10 until October now. The access roads and side streets around there are a total mess. I now make it a point to go on Briar Forest and shoot up Dairy Ashford to get to Conoco and the same route back.
The OP never stated a purchase range, which is so key in all these "Where should I live in Houston," posts. If someone is going to be working in the EC, and has a budget of 300k+, there is no reason to send them up to an xburb. You have one of the best and most mature school districts in Houston right there.

I'm not sure why you don't think you can go North on the tollway from I-10. The West Memorial area is great, I love it, but the choices are very limited, comparitively. You get a smaller, old house, possibly with foundation issues depending on where they are on the fault line. It's also great if you bought there 4 years ago as the nicer redos have gone up about $100K asking price in just 4 years. Sucks if you're just now looking.
As for the suburbs (xburbs as you call it), I'd choose North Cypress over Katy every time, if you like good schools, big, mature trees and newer homes. The traffic on that commute would be about 30-45 minutes.

All the North bound ramps are shut Mr.Football. West bound 1-10 to Beltway North, East bound I-10 to Beltway North. Construction for one is until late May, the other won't be ready until October.
You have to exit and park on the feeder roads to get north. Trying to get on I-10 inthe Kirkwood or Gessner area are now impossible.
One Week Forecast of Upcoming Closures However the road signs are saying October

Why wouldn't you just take Fry Rd, Barker Cypress, FM 1960 or Eldridge? The drive from Bridgeland to I-10 down Fry takes all of about 20 minutes.

Because everyone is doing that until construction is done. Coming in that way isn't bad, but getting home apparently has been much much longer since this shutdown. I know a few people that live in Black Horse that work for Conoco. I know too because I just tried to get home from there yesterday, and after waiting 10 minutes trying to get on I-10, I bailed and hit the side roads to Memorial.

How about the area Memorial/Eldridge with the Hershey Park right around the corner for
hiking and biking and close to everything.
If you need more info call me 281/808-0964 cell. (I am a Realtor)

I'd take Katy over North Cypress anytime. Closer to Uptown and a lot more "well-to-do" areas in West Houston (the Memorial Villages, Memorial City, etc.).

I've seen those photos many times, and the neighborhoods really are no different than the one's in Katy. In fact, that neighborhood looks exactly like Woodcreek Reserve.
