I am moving to Houston soon from the UK.
I am looking for a house to rent but in a safe/good neighbourhood and close to amenities if possible. The primary thing is the neighbourhood being good.

What areas would you recommend and why?

In terms of rent cost, less is better but my max would be around $1300/month and that is pushing it.

would appreciate any suggestions or hints. Since I am in Houston right now, would be good to get a list of areas so I can go around and take a look.

thank you

More information is needed.

Since commute is important for most people, where will you be working?

Are you looking for privacy via a larger lot or do you like urban living?

Do you have kids, and will they be in private school or public?

What do you like to do? Is going out to pubs and restaurants important? Do you enjoy gardening? Have you always wanted a pool?

You need to give us a better idea of what you are looking for, or the answers could be completely off the mark.

for the commute - it does not matter. as long as it is say within 40 mins. it will be an office I will be renting (still hunting around).
privacy is good - I keep myself to myself.

no kids....

what do I like to do? hmm nothing really because I have been working non stop all my life and I wont have time to sit and figure out what to do given that I am migrating here on an investors visa and need to make it work.

as for a pool - no. I don't swim

You'll have to hunt around if you truly want a "house" in a good neighborhood that's close to amenities for $1300. You'll probably have to look in the suburbs. I think you can easily find a nice "apartment" centrally located for $1300 in Montrose or Midtown though.

I'm thinking Katy. But there are others that are much more familiar with the suburbs than me.

Sugarland, Kingwood, Katy, League City and Summerwood are a few of the further out suburbs that would be pushing 40 minutes.

There are places closer in that might work just as well with less of a commute such as:

Bellaire/Sharpstown:
9010 Hendon, Houston, TX 77036 - HAR.com
14115 Maximos, Houston, TX 77083 - HAR.com

Westview:
6615 Housman, Houston, TX 77055 - HAR.com

Alief:
14227 Fitzroy Ct, Houston, TX 77083 - HAR.com
13118 Crescent Manor Lane, Houston, TX 77072 - HAR.com

Generally speaking, the closer in you get the older the home and the smaller the home.

thank you. I appreciate that ALOT.
I found one home in tomball that I like the look off - going to try and arrange a viewing but did not know you had to go through agents to get that done.

FYI, Tomball to downtown is 35 miles. It's going to take you a lot more than 40 minutes to get there in the mornings.
