I drive off the highway and before I got to the end of the double lines on my right side I drove over them to change to the right lane of the feeder road.
a Jersey Village cop saw me, pulled me over and gave me a $250 ticket.

Seem to me like a lot of money for what I did.
Is there any possibility that it would get lowered or dismissed.
Thanks

Do I have to go to court first?

Yes, you go to court on the date on your ticket. Plead no contest, ask the judge can you take the defensive driving(they'll usually ask you) and he or she will give you I think like 90 days to take the course. You go some where and take the course(or you can do it online) and then you go back to courthouse and show them your defensive driving certificate and then the that's it. The ticket doesn't go on your record.

Our wonderful Jersey Village cops, always there to keep the roads safe! Sorry you got nabbed, but that is why I'm EXTRA careful in the city limits. With most of the red light cameras turned off due to the 290 construction, they have to hit up other revenue sources.

You can call the JV courthouse and talk to them about it and see what is needed to take defensive driving. The last time I did it, not in JV, I never went to the court and everything was handled through the mail.

Good luck!

Make sure to mention, or print out, all your positive comments about police on this forum. That should help your case.

Somebody sent me a private message saying "I waited for a few days for the ticket to show up in the system and then I signed up for defensive driving"
How do I know that the ticket showed up in the system?

I'm sure you can do it that way, I would go to court first, and ok it with the judge.
