I am trying to decide on where to live in Texas. I have been told that the areas in DFW and Houston are the best places to live. I am in my late 30s, single parent, Administrative Assistant, looking to (ultimately) purchase a loft or 4bdrm home with a sizable yard (front & back).

Info request
-job opportunities
-school districts
-apartment rentals
-family recreation
-shopping, nightlife, etc
-taxes, commutes, public transport

Thanks

DFW and Houston are very large areas. You should probably give us an idea of what area you'll be working first before we can suggest areas to live.

Also, a 2-3 story loft on a 900 sq ft cement garden compared to a 2400 sq ft, 4 bdrm flat on a quarter acre of grass & trees are two very different extremes as well.

I am so sorry. I am still in the employment search stage. Most of my searches have been pretty much in the downtown DFW area. I have only been to Dallas once and that was the area that I visited. Houston was just suggested to me not long ago. I plan to rent for at least a year while I'm making my choice of a loft vs home. I need to be near schools for my young one an have an easy commute btwn home, school, work.
