Here we go again! What water softener to get? I have researched into DuPure, Hague, and Fleck. I am currently tilting towards Fleck 7000 (48K grains) water softner with maybe a carbon filter.

I am in Cross Creek Ranch (Fulshear) and my reason for going with Fleck is the price. I do not need a system that will last me forever. I do not need any RO system under the sink (Builder already gave DuPure filter). My primary goal is to soften the water. I am thinking of adding Carbon filter to remove the chlorine if the need be.

My question to you is:
1. Has anyone had Chlorine issues or any other major water issues in Fulshear or Cross Creek Ranch?

2. I really don't care about being able to get bottle water quality from every tap in house. All I care is water is good enough for wash, bath, dishes, clothes, shower head/faucets, etc .... -- do I really need carbon filter or something fancy or should I get just water softner and maybe carbon filter as well?

3. I am thinking of buying the Fleck from Belsome (distributor and installer). Any feedback on their install work and after sales service?

4. Fair to say Fleck 7000 is value for money? I am looking for a Honda not a BMW!

--------------------
Thank you,

P.S: I cannot believe how complicated the decision to get water softner and filter has gotten. I wonder if it is us who are to be blamed for being paranoid or is it the companies and their sales people who are using fear tactic to lure us in. I mean how bad can the water being sent to us be? We ain't some third world country. I understand the need for having a water softner in some cities, but this whole RO system, carbon filter, etc.... is just making things complicated.

1. I wouldn't know.

2. Tap water is sufficient for your basic water needs unless you want soft water.

3. I used them and they did a good job. I haven't had any problems, so I can't comment on after sales service. They do offer a 5 year warranty on their product/install.

4. Yes, I would say it's the Honda/Toyota of water softeners. If you want the BMW/Lexus, go for Kinetico.

PS. I did it for the slight benefits. Your appliances will last a little longer because there's less build up and it might be a little better for your skin.

Does Chlorine need to be removed from the whole house? I've heard that it should be removed for good skin/hair, etc, but then I've heard that by removing it, you're no longer properly disinfecting the whole house water and that the water starts to smell (still water in the water heaters, etc.)?

Does anyone have more knowledge on this topic?

Thanks!
