Just recently bought a house, i think its in fort bend county. When and how do I file for home exemption? And where do I need to go to get this done? Can it be done online?

Sorry I am new to all of this stuff... I'm not even sure what homestead exemption is. All I know is that you save money off your taxes?

If someone can please explain this to me in a simple down to earth way I would really appreciate it.

Also is there a time limit that you need to get this done? I don't want to end up missing out, especially if it will save me money.

Just google "Homestead Exemption" and you will see the state site there and when you open it, there is a form you can print out, sign and send in.

Well yes, if you want the exemption to count for 2008 you need to own and live in the house on January 1.
