We went with a medium-stained engineered hickory with a thick top layer from Roberts Fine Flooring. Dogs and kids have left scratches but even so it remains beautiful. The grain and scraped wide planks lend it a more rustic look to start so the scratches are really not very noticeable and don't detract. I'm intrigued by the wood tiles, I've never seen them.

Do what suits your family, not some other imaginary one.

I agree! We just got ceramic tile that looks like hardwood. It is gorgeous and durable. We got it in our bathrooms!

I do like the wood tile but our entry hall kitchen and breakfast is tile. I think mixing tiles downstairs wouldn't be a good thing. You're the second person who has told me about Roberts fine flooring and they were very positive too.
