I would not worry about this huge increase in traffic. Most Neighborhood Markets really do not do a huge weekly sales volume. Just think of them as a slightly smaller Randall's but with better prices. I have heard that a Neighborhood Market can be profitable with 225k-250k in weekly sales; very similar to what an Aldi needs to do sales wise to be profitable 150-175k. Something to compare it to - the HEB Plus on Fry and 99 probably does 1.5 million or more. For a lot of people this store will be a big convenience store. Do your big shopping at HEB or Kroger and a quick grab of a few items at Walmart. Small list Milk, bread and Milano cookies do you really want to fight the crowds for that?

The fact that it's being built right in front of Katy Creek Ranch doesn't surprise me one bit.

Walmart Neighborhood Market coming to Cypress - Community Impact Newspaper
Ok that makes a lot more sense. It seems out of the way for a super center. They usually like nearby freeway access and visibility. They must be revamping the neighborhood markets as most were built in less desirable areas. I had one by my work place in Alief, total hood but it was a nice little store to pick up things on my lunch break. I'm surprised Katy isn't more outraged about this given the outcry over Aldi built on Mason.

Again, how can you be outraged when on the same street you have an outlet mall, Target, Home Goods, Office Max, Taco Bell....etc.

Yea, but right across from an Elementary is a little odd.

... across from an elementary school that happens to be near a high density of housing and undeveloped land. Give that section of Westheimer Pkway a few years and you won't recognize it.

It does suck for the kiddos that walk/ride to school since traffic is sure to increase.

Which is why elementary schools should be in the middle of neighborhoods or if they are on a major road, should be surrounded by residential only.
