Try to stay at a bed and breakfast on our near main street in Fredericksburg. Shops, restaurants, bakeries, and museums will be within walking distance. Then you can get an idea of what else is in the area. Also a few major chain hotels are a little further out on main street. Still a short walk to the shops, bakeries, etc. Also look up Luckenbach, which is a very short drive away. This is the hottest part of the year, but you can still find lots to see and do.

If you decide on Surfside Beach (Freeport) I would suggest renting a Beach house since Hotels are few and far between in that area. Plus a beach house would give you more privacy as well. It seems they can be rented for around $200/250 per night...

There are many more on a google search

Hello,

Happy Sunday! We are thinking of going to the beach...so it is either Surfside (Freeport) or Rockport/Malaquite in the Corpus Christi area?

We are planning to leave early in the morning, spend two nights and return in the evening of the 3rd day.

Looking for a location where we can use the beach/water for a bit, get a comfortable hotel room, and have some non seafood dining options in the area/short drive away...and maybe some other activities nearby?

Please help us pick...so we can book a place to stay and pack!

Thank you!
Andrew

Port Aransas has nice water. Be sure to pick up a canopy from Academy before you go. Get to the beach early so you can pick a good spot. We stayed at Homewood Suites before and it was clean and relatively nice:

Agree w txdemo...

I know I recommended malaquite which would be great to see but port aransas is also nice and close by with more hotels and restaurants next to their ocean. For dining, rockport is close to port aransas.

As txdemo says, the water is nicer. I'm not too crazy about the ocean in this area which is why I wouldn't choose surf side. Water in port aransas is tealish and is pretty good to jump and swim in.

Do NOT go to Surfside. That would be a crappy birthday trip.

Thanks!

We are excited to go to Port Aransas, and pray for a safe trip.

Which route do you recommend from Houston (Spring area) to Port Aransas?

We have a small car, and want to drive at a comfortable speed, and make some pit stops for food and to stretch our legs along the way.

Any thoughts?

Anyone need a souvenir from there?

Andrew

My wife and I have rented cabins in the Hill County near the towns of Utopia and Vanderpool. Beautiful area.

Your fiancee might want to take an ice chest and foods she can eat. It may be difficult to find decent vegetarian meals in Texas' smaller cities and towns.
