Statistically, they are much more likely to die on the road than even someone living in the third ward is likely to die of a violent crime. I guess it's just something about the horror of violent crime, vs the mundane danger of a traffic fatality.
How much safer is the park and ride metro bus?????

Reality doesn't match that belief. Suburban neighborhoods are virtually crime free. All places don't have equal crime.

I'm too lazy to look that up, but I'm guessing that it's a lot safer.

Pretty blanket statement there, Wink. Especially hard to believe in Houston, where we have a lot of suburban areas that are low-mod income and have a reputation for crime (at least perception of crime). Plus suburban malls and shopping centers, especially near freeways, tend to be property crime (and sometimes mugging) magnets.
