I have heard stories that the BNSF Railway has increased a number of freight trains on that line because it's a quicker route to get from Fort Worth to Houston and back.

I honestly don't know how many times a day it goes through but I use 1960 often at different times of the day and I very rarely get stopped by a train, in fact I can't remember the last time it happened. If you do happen to catch one going through, it is no big deal anyway. Traffic is stopped for a few minutes then it all clears out again.

I cross those tracks at least 10 times a week just going to work and back. Occasionally I'll get stopped by a train but it's not too often. This may be due to the timing of their schedule? Anyway it's never too long of a wait, unless of course I'm already running late

Willowbrook mall is definitely not ghetto. despite the entire "minority debate" I believe Willowbrook and Memorial City Mall are the best malls in Houston after the Galleria.

To the OP about the area, I agree that after Champions Forest Dr heading east towards I-45 it does get more ghetto. I would rule out two neighborhoods though, one being Olde Oaks and NorthGate Forest. and those two neighborhoods have declined mostly because of the Walmart super center expansion and the mass apartment developments in the last 14 years. The area went down hill, but despite that.. there are far far worst places in Houston. What used to be a "great area" is now just average.

Northgate Forest really declined?? Are you sure you are thinking of the right area? There are homes selling for $1 million up to $2 mil. It's a nice golf community.

no i was pointing out that those are the two best neighborhoods in the area going east bound on 1960 toward 1960. but you have to understand that Northgate was once one of the best neighborhoods in Texas. they filmed the kevin costner movie "tin cup" in that neighborhoods golf course. Hakeem Olajuwon, Gold Medal Olympians, Mattress Mac have all lived in the neighborhood (with the exception that mac still lives there) but most everyone has left because of what it has become. its just not what it used to be. i grew up in those neighborhoods, our friends and i get together around christmas time when we come home to visit our families and we discuss this all the time. that walmart and the apartments built recently around it have brought the areas "prestige" down. it just doesnt feel the same. that cvs pharmacy on terrace oaks and 1960 has been hit up and robbed 5 times this year. we never had bs like that in the history of the area

It seems like CVS and Walgreens are becoming fair game all over town.

Well there was a teenager who bought sneakers at Willowbrook a couple of years ago, and a couple of of young guys (are they ever not) followed him home nearby and murdered him for his shoes, which they got, and the Sheriff got them.

Here is my post mentioning 1960, the couple who are friends of mine lost $60,000 because of the changes to the area in a booming metro of all things. They were living right at Champion Forest Dr. and 1960. http://www.city-data.com/forum/houst...l#post28314890

Armed robber storms north Harris County day care, demanding money

Day care was robbed a while back around there. Yes a day care.

Speaking of Northgate, I remember 20 years ago it was called Rivers Oaks of the North.
