It is delicious, but it doesn't really compare to me to some of the better russian jewish delis I would go to in chicago or the jewish delis in nyc. Also, I wish we had more fine dining German food since that is a part of our history.

More bakeries with breads, pies, pastries and cakes, not just fancy-schmancy gourmet bite-sized mini cupcakes. I miss my rugelach and potica (povitica!).

Yes, a few times. Not even close to the diners back in NJ.

Ugh... going to clean this thread. Too many posts off topic, and someone hijacked the thread...

The topic of this thread is: What kind of restaurants is Houston lacking in? (inside the loop) Everything else will be deleted.

Polish restaurant - Polonia isn't good, sadly. And perhaps traditional Jewish? (What's happened to Alfred's?)

There are only two German restaurants, and neither is great. Not a real Eastern European cuisine. OK - Charivari (Romanian), and Cafe Pita (Bosnia) - but for a city our size, we should have more.
No Hungarian (goulash - yum!!), Bulgarian (Tarator - so good for Summer!) or Croatian (Cevapcici - drooling!), either

And really good delis! I understand that we have many places that claim to be delis. But good delis? New York-quality delis? Hardly.

I know, its a strange question - but have you heard about molecular gastronomy? I guess, most Houstonians haven't, because we don't have any.

I like Polonia. But then again I'm not Polish.

As somebody whose family is from Trinidad we need more Trinidadian/Caribbean/West Indian restaurants inside the loop. There's a Trinidaian restaurant out in Pearland, but that's too far for me to drive to spur of the moment. And he never has what I want!(Palau). There are a few Jamaican restaurants around, but they don't eat everything Trinidaians do. Some of the food is the same, Beef Patty, curry goat, curry chicken. But then there's a lot of stuff they don't make that Trinidaians do like Palau, Doubles, palori, Roti, Fired bake, saltfish, Callaloo. Damn I'm getting hungry now.

All venezuelan restaurants are in Katy, Spring or Humble
except a crappy food truck that I tried by ... Westheimmer and I didn't like it.

Colombian has at least one = Mi pueblito, which is really good

Check out True Food Kitchen in the new Blvd Place development at Post Oak and San Felipe. Great food and surprisingly reasonable prices. And pretty darn close to being in the loop!
