Hi,

I'm planning to move to Houston, TX from Orange County ,CA. I want to drive during the day time and maybe at night.

What is the best route and how long is the drive if driving early morning to 9pm.

Thx

Jon

Not sure exactly where in OC your starting point is, but I have made that drive a few times (Huntington Beach to Houston). I used to take the 57 to the 60, then the 60 to I-10. Then I-10 all the way to Houston. Took me roughly 21 hours total. Usually stopped over in either El Paso or Van Horn, TX to get some sleep and something to eat.

If your final destination is Humble, my suggestion would be to take the Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway 8), and head North. Then take 59 North from the Beltway to Humble. That will save you some time, versus going all the way through the city.

ive done the drive a few times. not including the small freeways in LA or Hou, I'd:

take I-10 to El Paso: about 12 hours
I-10 to Houston: another 12 hours

Leaving at 7 in the morning will get ya there in the evenings at a decent hour.

My gas stops would be: Arizona borderline (cheaper gas), tucson, el paso (careful in deming, nm on the way to el paso-speed trap), el paso, ft stockton or ozona, then san antonio for the last stretch

drives a cakewalk. welcome to town

now that IS a drive! I do believe that beats my Houston/Pearland to Minneapolis drive!

nothing like driving watching the sun go down and then watching it come up during that same drive!

They call Humble the "San Diego of the South". Well. Not really.

It will be a change.

Silly question but should I reserve a hotel room along the way or just find one as I'm driving.

Since your halfway point will be roughly El Paso, I wouldn't worry too much about reserving a room. You can usually always find vacancies in El Paso hotels/motels any day of the week. Unless of course you want high-brow hotel service.
