Was wondering if any of my fellow city-data Houstonians have dealt with this issue. Have searched the Texas DPS site for information, no luck so far.

My truck is registered in Harris County. However, I'm living out of the country and storing the truck with my parents, who live in a county in Texas that doesn't require emissions testing. Right before I left the country, I got the truck inspected in my parents' county, and was able to get an inspection sticker with no issue (and with no emissions test). A year later, my truck is once again due for inspection, but now the mechanic refuses to issue an inspection sticker "because the truck is registered in Harris county".

The truck isn't operated in Harris County - should it still require an emissions test? Is there a form available that I can fill out certifying that the truck is no longer operated in Harris county? Or are our only options to have the truck re-registered in my parents' county, or have them drive it 6 hours round-trip to Houston to get inspected?

Change the county of registration?

Haha that should've been obvious I suppose. I assumed that changing the registration county would require me to completely re-register the truck and pay another registration fee, but apparently that isn't the case. Thanks.
