I'm looking for a home insurance company for a new home we purchased in Tomball. The builder recommended Westwood, but we're looking into other options. Any suggestions? Should I look at local companies or the big ones?

Thanks!

I've heard of complaints both ways. Local vs. Big Brand .for example, sometimes the big brands up your rates because they just auto raised your coverage amounts just because. not saying a local wouldn't either but so far I haven't heard that yet. on the other hand, I've heard of local ones getting your yearly update mixed up and not keeping the lender notified. the basics are the local ones will probably be cheaper and then you get into the whole, you get what you pay for debate.

hopefully someone here knows a good local company in Tomball to recommend. if so you should definitely give them a call for comparisons at least.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply! Yeah, I was thinking you get what you pay for, but then some people seem to have good experiences with smaller, local insurance companies. I'm doing my research but sometimes it just gets overwhelming! Thanks again.

We are in Northwest Houston and have had excellent service through Cravens Warren. Our needs are pretty straightforward but I've recommended them to friends with more complicated needs and received positive feedback.

Liberty Mutual
The Vintage

Saved us hundreds a year over the company we had been using for 15 years. Home and cars. The biggest savings was on the auto, but the homeowners was $600 cheaper than Nationwide for the exact same coverage.

If you are eligible, get USAA. Always ranked at the top for satisfaction levels and pricing. I have never had any issues with them at all.

I agree the service is top notch, but USAA pricing was a lot higher for me for auto and home. I asked them to match and they refused, yet I keep getting spam mails about their insurance.

The caveat is that she or someone in her immediate family has to have served or are currently AD in order to be eligible for USAA. Which, less than 1% of the American population has.

Who is eligible?

  • Active, retired and honorably separated officers and enlisted personnel of the U.S. military.
  • Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).
  • Adult children whose eligible parents have or had a USAA auto or property insurance product.1
  • Widows and widowers of USAA members who have or had a USAA auto or property insurance policy.

I've heard good things about Amica. I currently have my renters and auto with them and when I close on my home, I will call them first. So far the service has been excellent!

I have AMICA also. Good service but the premiums are higher. I'm about to switch to State Farm.
