Well I had heard so many good things about Mikki's on 10500 W Bellfort St in Houston. Not far off the Beltway. I tried it for the first time last night and it was great. I had the bake chicken, collard greens, candie yams, and mac and cheese. All of it was off the chain.

Thelma's on Dowling (just east of DT proper) is a good option, too.
