I saw the story on the 11 news at 10 last night...very sorry to hear about it, but glad she is okay...hopefully, the loser crook will get caught on surveillance trying to use your wife's credit cards, since said person tried to use them two hours later.

I think everyone just has to be more aware of their surroundings at all times..when I go grocery shopping or to walmart/target, I like to park far away from everyone so I can be in a spot where I can see my car and if any vehicles are parked next to me...not to be funny or critical of anyone, but when I see women shopping, I notice a big purse or bag in one hand, cell phone in another or up their ear, while they are trying to get into a car with either kids or groceries or both.

its easy pickings for a thief, especially if you are pre-occupied....I think its going to get to a point where women will have to stop carrying purses around...I know a lot of yall like to show off your louis vutton or jimmy chou or coach bag, but to a thief that represents potential money and easy and quick credit cards, along with your ID and phone, etc...

finally, these thief's and criminals are getting brazen in their attacks..they just hit up a nail shop in NW houston last week, robbing a total of 10 women and then shooting a 65 yr old woman..I noticed on the grand parkway in katy and richmond, nearly every bank and cell phone store has off duty officers working security because those were places thieves were targeting....they are breaking into lockers at gyms because people are keeping valuables in there...I wear a fanny pouch when I work it and keep my wallet, keys and cell phone on me at all times...

Can you send me a link to the type of vest you wear? I just got my CHL and am trying to figure out what will work best for me. I'm thinking I want it on my person, not in my purse.

I can list at least eight, maybe ten reasons why some people do this...

1) SSI payments (Nothing like money out of the thin air, just declare each kid has a learning problem, and BAM, $720 per child each month!)

2) Temporary Assistance (That never ends, we can't be cruel and just cut it off)

3) Free Milk and Cheese aka WIC (Keep them children coming that can't be afforded and only buy the good stuff, like Promised Land Chocolate Milk, mmm-mmm-mmmmmm)

4) Free Lunch for kids and adults (Pack a lunch, pfft, what for? The school, or activity center will feed us for free)

5) Food Stamps (While one pays for their fillet with EBT, I wait behind them with my hamburger meat)

6) Free Phone (If you don't get enough minutes, get multiple phones)

7) Medicaid/Obama Care (Subsidized. Only foo's pay for stinking insurance. Maybe get that bad knee replaced, or bypass surgery for free)

8) Free Childcare (Why take care of all your kids? Work at McDonald's and send your kids to Kipling Academy like all them people with money)

9) Section 8 (Look on HAR to find good neighborhoods)

10) Rent Subsidies (OK, HAR did not list any safe place, just get your rent subsidy in whatever neighborhood you choose, Seciton 8 is just for the hardcore anyway),

11?) Soon Obama Internet (Apparently. Everyone deserves 156MB/Sec to be able to look for jobs, and surf City-Data)

Why in the world would anyone want to work when they can get all these things at YOUR expense? Why not stay home and watch Judge Judy on the big 55 inch, sipping on some 'red drink', and eating some tasty tacos instead of working for a living? To these welfare-for-life people, going out to commit a crime for cash is just like going to an ATM. Any proceeds from a robbery is just icing on the cake.

Seriously, and for the record, a functioning welfare system is needed, there are a lot of honest people who need temporary help. The problem is with those with the 'progressive' mind set who think the thresholds for qualification should be low, leading to rampant and obscene abuse and uneducated, often illiterate parents, who perpetuate this cycle of living.

I like the Ruger LCP (.380) with a DeSantis Nemesis G3 holster. Light, compact, and slips in and out of my pocket pretty easy.

I am very glad that your wife and child are safe, sorry for the loss of her belongings and more than likely of some of her mental security.

Stereotype much? I guess we need to stop feeding those hungry kids!

Exactly. It doesn't matter where you are, everyone should ALWAYS be aware of their surroundings. Running a quick visual 'sweep' of the area is what I always do in public areas, especially when getting in and out of my car. Preventive measures are key.

This is not about the innocent kids who pay for the stupid decisions their parents make.

But is it a stereotype? Well of course, it is oversimplifying the problem. But here is another simplification for you.

In 2011 (for which complete figures are known), the US spent 1.2 TRILLION on welfare, this is not on benefits where people paid in, like Social Security, etc. It is all of what I mentioned earlier, plus more.

The US population is about 316 (legal residents), so let's say about 330 MILLION.

Do the math. How much would you end up with if the US government decided to officially 'spread the wealth', and divvied up 1.2 trillion and just handed you a check.... or a really loaded EBT card?

This does not count the charity, or generosity that does not get reported; it does not include the gift that people hand out to the thousands on Houston's busy intersections each day.

That is a lot of money, when will it end? We've been fighting poverty as a country since I can remember. All that happens is people get addicted, and hooked for life on it. I am tired of paying for it. This happens under your noses and people are so used to it, no one questions it anymore. Whenever you are low on cash and wonder where your money goes, it is not on your gas bill, electric, rent, or mortgage, it is the huge entitlement program which you pay for, automatically, and without question. People need to wake up.
