Can anyone offer information about the cities between Houston and Beaumont?
I'm coming down in the spring to check out areas between Houston and Beaumont for relocation. We like the smaller, rural, quieter, less densely populated areas. I believe if i can hear the neighbors toot then it's too crowded. The larger cities are great for work, entertainment, and cultural growth, but for plain relaxation we prefer out of the hustle.

we want to make HOUSTON HOME
We are currently a middle class African American military family. We have been looking at places to retire. Sugar Land was listed on CNN Money top 10 places to retire (#3) on the list. Can someone tell me more about the area?
I am from NY, NY but grew up in NV and my husband is from OH (we WERE big city folks). We have three children which will all be grown by the time we retire. We have lived overseas since 1997. We did have a break back to the states 2003- 2005.We have since return overseas and will remain here until mid 2010.
We are looking for a place to settle and call home. ( I am willing to leave early 2008 and get set up if the news is good and the price is RIGHT.) We are looking for a city with good job growth, low crime, good health care (VA hospital), great shopping malls, low property taxes and taxes in general. A balance of people of all races and tolerances, we want a middle to upper middle class area to live that includes lots of retirees (military a plus) etc… House prices from 150,000-200,000 outside of Houston and couple to NO illegals of any race.
I would like to live with people who care about there neighborhood as well as the neighbors. This is what we have been accustom to for the last 20 years or so being in the military. Any chance of finding this in Sugar Land, Spring, Cypress, Crosby, Katy surrounding area outside of Houston -TX.

Sugar Land's a great place, but I'm not sure that it's popular for retirees... it's more of a young city, lots of young families with small children.
From what (little) I know, the more popular retirement areas around Houston would be Clear Lake/League City, Conroe, or around Lake Houston. Maybe some others here have more knowledge on this....

we want to make HOUSTON HOME
Thanks for the advice on places to retire, but I must confess to you that we are fairly young when it comes to retirement. Last June made 20yrs of military service for my husband and he was ONLY 37.
My husband can punch out at anytime, but we plan to get our last child graduated from DODDS Italy-High School 2010. That's why we are looking for a retirement community of young (early 50's empty nesters) because we will not have any children at home and do not want to be surrounded by lots of young school age kids . Been there done that got 3 T- shirts to prove it …
I guess we will be called empty nesters too, not to forget 2 time retiree's. Can you tell me about Cypress, Crosby and Spring? or put me in touch with someone that can.
Many thanks
