Hi
I have an original attic water heater, and I am pretty sure its time to replace it. I was wondering if you all could maybe recommend any one for the install. I am located in First Colony. I previously have gotten great advice for sprinklers (Loudens!) off this site. Who have you used to install a new gas water heater. Mine is a 40 gallon short and is located in the attic of a two story house. Thank you in advance !

Try CPR plumbing services.

Otherwise ARS or John Moore.

They will charge you $100 to $200 just because it is in the attic

I am in Stafford and used Stork Plumbing just recently to replace the water heater in my attic. They were fantastic and charged reasonable rates. Avoid John Moore and ARS. They are a huge ripoff. I wanted a heavier duty 50 gallon model that would be more efficient and last longer. John Moore wanted over $3000 to install the same exact heater Stork installed for less than $1500. JM and ARS are a ripoff on pretty much all the services they offer.

Wow we just found a licensed Plumber who worked on the side who came over on a Saturday and did ours for either $400 or $500. We bought the water heater and had it here and he just came and did the removal of old one and install of the new. I'd recommend him but he's moved to Austin.

Replacing a water heater in the attic is a serious project. Home Depot replaced mine (March 2014) in the attic with a 50 gallon top of the line Rheem for $1,450 (water heater + installation).

I rue the day I have to replace my two in the attic (17+ yrs, knock on wood), and according to a co-worker who had one replaced recently, they are running about $1,300-$1,500 or so. She got a few estimates off Angies List and was satisfied. She is out today otherwise I would ask her. No way I can spend that much to install a $350-400 unit, so I will be doing it myself, but luckily I have 3 sons to help with the heavy lifting!

Good luck on it.

FWIW, and not that you asked, I would never own a home with a water heater in the attic.

I have had a water heater fail before, and it produced prodigious amounts of water. Even if you were home and caught it quickly, it would do a ton of damage. Imagine if you were out of town? Like we were. Fortunately, it was in a garage... Still made an enormous mess.

If you have gas, maybe go tankless?
