Any dog day care you recommend to leave our puppy for a few days preferably near katy. Our friends may not be able to take him.

Near Katy? Rover Oaks Katy is (IMHO) the best west side boarding facility (and doggie-day care). Several Houston Press awards.

Default Average cost

Just out of curiosity, for those who have left pets, what is a typical cost? Is it based on the size of the dog? I can't see a Lab costing the same as a Yorkie, for example. Thanks

The few times I have left our (Yorkie) there, we have paid around $50 per day. I think the base price is $35 per day but we chose a package that have extra amenities for our baby. I didn't bother looking or asking to see if bigger dogs are different price package, I would imagine so.

There are cheaper options out there but Rover Oaks had a very nice and clean facility compare to others ones we went to tour.

Important: make sure your dog has the vaccinations that the boarding place requires, as well as paperwork from your vet showing it. Otherwise the boarding place won't accept your pet. Your best bet is to call the boarding place and then check your dog's records.

That is high... we go on vacations lasting three weeks at the minimum, usually four weeks. We could buy a new dog after the trip for that cost. Thanks.

Sort of an odd response. If you go on month long vacations, of course it's going to add up. And since a rescue dog only costs about $50 and a bunch of love & hugs, well heck yeah, you could make your money back in a day. But is that what this is about?

That price is very typical of decent boarding facilities. You get what you pay for. I've seen facilities where the dogs are all kept in a giant room, with dozens of barking dogs driving all the other dogs insane. Where the cages get washed out once a day, while the dogs are still in them! Or you can use a better place, where they take the dogs out to play several times a day, and care and love are lavished on them.

If you leave for a month at a time very often, maybe a dog isn't for you.
