There are some homes that are within .25 a mile or less of ten that look nice. You can hear the road noise from ten when outside. Some very loud. I may be able to deal with that. But what about air quality issues or pollution issues?

If the noise doesn't bother you, I personally don't think it matters.

The prevailing winds are from the south/southeast so if you're south of I-10 the wind will carry a lot of the noise away from you. You can notice this if you're at a big box store off the freeway.

Pollution from 400,000 cars per day most likely blows the direction of the wind.

Freeways and some busy roads are major heat islands 5-10 degrees hotter than the surrounding area. Not sure how far this radiates outward.

Definitely dont live in a purple area. Pollution has only gotten worse since this map came out.

Benzene?? Wouldn't CO2, general HC or NOx emissions be more relevant?

Do you have any data that supports benzene emissions having gotten worse since 1999?

@tstone, generally other pollutants are all in line with each other. In other words the same things that produce benzene produce formaldehydes, NOX and everything else.
CO2 isn't toxic, so nothing to worry about. I dont know what HC is.
As far as pollution getting worse, benzene is mostly produced by autos as we can see by the concentrations near high traffic areas (unless you're on the east side). The population density and hence traffic has gone up substantially year to year.

If I am reading this right... the worst case (red) means that 43 people are at risk in a million? So that's a .004% chance. I'm not a gamblin' man but even I would take those odds.

You tend to get more crimes of opportunity in homes near a freeway. Easy access and quick get away.
