Lol, I'm curious what your sartorial standards are. DH wears shockingly pricey boots but otherwise what should a man wear to rise above the typical uniform you describe - a suede fringe jacket? Spurs?

Native Texans here and have never owned a truck, cowboy boots, cowboy hat or any flannel that wasn't pajamas. I'll cook and eat the hell out of some brisket though. Most of the folks that dress up around here for Go Texan day just end up looking like tourists that are trying too hard.

I just wear jeans, standard shirt or sweater. I have a relative though who both she and her husband have an everyday wardrobe exclusively from cavenders. It's a way of life for them.

I think one reason Go-Texan day is not what is once was is that the Rodeo seems to want to leverage the goodwill it generates for them to effect their civic agenda, and many people do not want to encourage that. When the Rodeo gets their noses out of some of these debates perhaps a wider base of support will return for this tradition..

I went go Texan today - cinch jeans, Mahan western snap shirt, boots, stetson open road felt hat. I did it because I work for a company with a lot of foreign employees. They all get a kick out of a guy walking in wearing a cowboy hat.

Leaving here early to put on a tux (Non-western ) for an auction tonight. Such is the life in Houston

I think this is the first year the higher ups at work didn't send out an email about Go Texan Day. I saw it mentioned on the news this morning but didn't want to chance wearing jeans to work today and getting in trouble. Good thing I didn't because no one was wearing jeans today and there was no mention of Go Texan Day.

Really the only reason to get excited about it is the chance to dress casual for the day. Otherwise I wouldn't care and that probably goes for most people.

I'd rather have a Go California Day and wear board shorts to work or a Go New York Day and wear a frown on my face all day.

The date can change every year. It is the date that all the various trail riders ride into town ahead of the rodeo start. Typically a Friday.

I just wish Western wear wasn't so expensive. My wife & I thought about buying cowboy boots (she was born here, I immigrated when I was a few months old), but then realized those suckers cost north of $100-$150 easily.
