HEB's at Pearland 518 and 59S at The Grand both have the central market take out/deli/dips counter.

I wish they'd move/expand the Whole Foods at Wilcrest/Westheimer.

Their biggest Houston store will be about 7 miles from there, at Post Oak and San Felipe. It will be a 78,000 square foot, flagship store. I'm not sure when they plan to complete it.

I thought that whole project was having major financing problems. Maybe it's just the residental section of it.

As the population continues to grow out 45 South, I wouldn't be surprised to see Whole Foods or Central Market pop up fairly soon. I would think Central Market before Whole Foods though. The HEB in Friendswood certainly leans toward the Central Market concept - and is one of the nicer HEB's in the area with a great selection of a lot of things.

Probably shouldn't label exclusively SE Houston as Tex-Mex - Pretty much most of Houston is Tex-Mex. Houston has a very strong Hispanic population - and it isn't focused in just one area. Apparently a lot of non-hispanics are enjoying the offerings at HEB's Mi Tienda - there was an article in the paper about that last week.

An employee from Central Market told me that they are opening no more new stores that are branded as Central Market. She said that the profit margins are too thin but that they will put Central Market type products in their other branded stores. (Hard to believe about the thin profit margins, I know, considering how busy the Houston Central Market is...)

There's an easy reason that Sugar Land was picked and the others overlooked for now. Sugar Land is, by far, the most ethnically diverse of the major suburbs. Look at the area, go to a church in the area. White, Hispanic, Black (Esp. MO City), Asian (all flavors and a large Filipino crowd), the works. It's not just white bread over in the "shoog" so all those ethnic food aisles make sense. People in Katy? Their idea of "ethnic" food is Pace picante sauce.
