Hi All,

Planned to moved to Katy because of good schools. We are about to close the new home in April but yesterday got the result from HISD that my younger kid got accepted in TH Rogers elementary school for 2nd grade Vanguard program. Elder one is attending different vanguard school 3rd grade, heard 4 & 5 grades are Ok.

We are in kind of a dilemma, whether to go ahead with buying the house or lose the THRogers seat.
Please give your opinion.

Regards,
--VSHouston

KATYISD has a pull out GT program, one day a week. They go on a few field trips a year, and that's about it.

The science program is weaker in KISD, math/writing is about three same. KISD has a stronger reading program. Social Studies is weak in both.

I have taught in both, and my child went to school in both. (GT program for each)

What is the other child's HISD vanguard school, and which campus in KISD?

Davidson will be better than Askew, but not quite as challenging as TH Rogers.

It would be nice to have both kids at the same school, and it's a good time to switch socially because it's a new campus. Kids find it easier to make friends when everyone is new.

If you don't mind the commute I would take the plunge and move to Katy.

If you hate the commute, they will do well in HISD.

You would be set in Katy with good schools all the way up for both kids. My friends' daughters went to Askew Vanguard but then went to Grace Presbyterian for middle school as the zoned middle school was not to their liking. I have another friend whose daughter went to TH Rogers through 8th and now is doing very well at Bellaire High. Driving all over town to take the kids to 2 different schools and after school activities/playdates would be challenging.

Well, we were notified that our child is in, but not in TH Rogers depending on late test scores being turned in by the testing company. Is this for real? Also, depending on their evaluation, our child could be rejected up until the day before school. However, we're supposed to move forward as if we've been accepted.

Also, what do you guys think of TH Rogers vs Chinese school?

Thanks for the comment. I can't figure out how to respond to comments. The additional information is really helpful. This process is very overwhelming and anything helps.
