Just searching to see if I am the only one, or if there are any tips or solutions for this crappy web site? I fly around the Internet all day long from site to site with no issues. But then, when I go to the chron.com site, it is like hitting a brick wall. The site constantly locks up, freezes, and just performs horribly in general. Am I the only one?

Same thing here. Try an ad block plugin for your browser. If you use Chrome, use ad-block-plus. It helps. I think it's because the chron is trying to load a bazillion advertisements and movies and all sorts of unnecessary junk.

The mobile site is harder to read, but it doesn't attempt to load all that advertising junk.

It is quite ridiculous. I set all of my plugins in Firefox to ask before using. It keeps all of those videos from automatically starting and stops other junk as well. I still problems with Chron.com locking up my browser, especially when viewing any of their slide shows.

Chron.com is a horrible website. Due to the constant issues, I just avoid it and seek out other news outlets.

A developer here at my company looked at it just for entertainment purposes a while back; he said it's a canned product, sold to many news outlets, I forget what he called it (has a name). He said the problem is that the developers for the Chron customize it heavily and don't do a good job of following RFCs. So you get what you get.

You would think, as a business, with readership of the print copy headed toward extinction, that they would focus all of their attention to developing a top notch, user-friendly, state of the art web site. Instead I have flashbacks to plugging into my phone jack, dialing in, then hearing "You've got mail!"

That happens to me too. The Chronicle as a whole now sucks.
