Default Renting

We will definitely rent first. We already made one expensive home buying mistake when we moved to a new state and purchased a house without really knowing the area well enough.

I am also building in Telfair. Hopefully I can move in by October. Yes you pay a premium for location. But the schools in the area are great. Telfair has it's own elementary school now, and if it turns out like any of the others elementary schools in the area (walker station, commonwealth, colony bend, etc.) you will be giving your kids a great start! All these schools are rating very high. Again a lot to do with demographics, parental support/involvement, & socio-economic situation.

EVA78 is on a distinguished road
we moved here from nyc about 6 months ago and rent a house in telfair. its a brand new beautiful community and the homes are very comfortable with open floor plans (at least the one we rent). The elementary school is literally on the grounds of the property and was open in the summer of 2007. town square is like a 4 minute drive and it has some really cute boutiques and nice resturants. same with the gym and whole foods, 4 minute drive. really convinent living here in sugar land. if you're looking for the burbs and new homes but have a life as well, sugar land, especially telfair is the perfect -place. try to get here by the summer so you can enjoy the resort style pool and the coolest water slide ever, i go on it myself!!!

I've spent hours on this forum and Sugar Land seems like it might be a good place for us to live (not a good commute but good for everything else).

Despite all my research, I'm in need of some extra reassurance. Could some current residents of Sugar Land please tell me what you like best about living in Sugar Land? We have two young children so perspectives from families would be awesome. I've reviewed GreatSchools and SchoolDigger but I'd like to hear personal stories from parents about the vibe of this area.

Thanks!
I am a city guy and understand what families look for in the Suburbs (lived in a couple), which Sugarland is. I have lived in NY, LA, Chicago and Miami. I am now in Houston. And Sugarland is what you would expect a nice middle class, safe and good schools neighborhood to look and feel like. Sugarland was also name one of the "best places" to live in the US by Money Magazine. You will have the comfort and security of a suburban town, yet close to all the amenities of the big city such as parks, museums, universities and entertainment.

As far as Houston is concerned, you can't go wrong with Sugarland. It's a safe bet!

I'm glad to hear that because we just leased a house in Sugar Land. I'll get to see it for the first time mid-March.
