Just for the day? If you tell her no, she might drive around Houston all day and spend more time in her car and get in a car accident.

Really? Not until she was totally out of the house??? Wow that seems extreme unless we are talking about someone who doesn't have much driving experience beyond a 5-mile radius of their home. People like that exist. My child was one of those. He had no desire to venture out beyond a small radius of home. Said he had everything he needed nearby. To this day I don't think he has good driving skills and habits and I think it's from lack of learning experience in all different driving scenarios.

To the OP: If she doesn't have much freeway and feeder street experience, you might start practicing before thinking of galveston. Perhaps your home to highland village or rice village. Once that is managed and doing well at it then maybe your home to galleria. Just a thought.

I got my license when I turned 16 in 2003 and my parents let me drive all over town, including to Galveston. We lived near the energy corridor at the time. I even drove to Austin occasionally to see friends.

We don't know YOUR daughter. Is she a resposible driver (rules, speeding, drinking)? Does she get too distracted with a talk, or phone? Is she a confident driver who knows the rules, and will know how to behave in case of an emergency? What about her friend? Can you trust him/her? What is your gut feeling about it?
Only YOU can answer those questions. And only YOU can take the responsibility for your approval.

I would have allowed 1 of my 3 daughters at that age, but that is based on what I knew of them at that age. Only you can decide the answer for your child, but I would feel alittle better with more driving experience at maybe 18. JMHO

My exact thoughts on the matter.

You know your child better than we do, you know if shes responsible or not. We can't answer that question for you, every teenager is different.

Not unless she's 18. Definitely no texting or talking on handheld cell phone while driving.
