so, i moved to texas and i need to get my DL; i looked up the requirements and i find this

If you're new to Texas, you have 90 days from the time you moved to the state to obtain your Texas driver's license. After that, your out-of-state or out-of-country license will no longer be valid for use in TX.
In order to apply for a license as a new resident, you'll take the same steps as those outlined in “Apply for Your TX Driver's License" below, EXCEPT you will not have to take the knowledge or road tests IF:
  • Your driver's license is valid and unexpired.
  • Your license is from another U.S. state or territory, OR it's from France, Canada, South Korea, or Germany.

i am past the 90 day grace period; i still have my PA license, and it does not expire til 2017; am i exempt from the drivers test? i am 27 (it says something about taking it if youre 18-24); my car is registered in tx as well

They don't ask how long you've lived in Texas when you apply. Process was surprisingly simple and easy - I went to the DPS in Rosenberg.

This explains why people drive so bad in Texas
I bet you can get a driver license if you show up with an expired driver's license from Haiti

I've lived in lots of states and changed DL's many times. I have never been asked by the new state when I moved there, nor did I offer than information. I believe when we moved to our current state of CO 3 years ago, I got my DL after 1-2 months, but did not register my car until the existing TX registration expired a full 11 months after relocating because of the extremely high registration costs here. Again, nobody ever called me out on this.

When I moved from TX to MO in 2001, however, I did have to take a written drivers test, but not a road test. First one I had taken since 1987. I felt like a teenager again, studying my little book.

Yes, you are exempt from the tests. Just go into the DMV and fill out the paperwork and they'll send you your TX license.

You only get in trouble if it's past 90 days and you get pulled over. The cop will ask about you address and being current/or not. If you are in texas and its past 90 days, you will get another ticket.

You are exempt from the tests. Tell them you just moved here and get a new one. They will take your PA license from you.
