Default Where is the best place to live near or in Galveston

Hey

It is a possiblity that my wife and I will be moving to Galveston or somewhere near. Work brings us specifically to that area so we are looking for a house
within a short distance to the central part of Galveston (strand).

The hitch is that we have two large (well-behaved) dogs, a house cat and a bird. We own our own home here and because of the market, will likely have to keep it so we are looking for the best value and the best neighborhood for the least money.

I have scanned Craigslist and googled homes for rent galvestion and come up with little or nothing except vacation rentals.

Can anyone tell me the best areas either on the island or nearby. I don't even want to go as far as Clear Lake for a commute with gas and the economy as bad as they are.

Any Advice as to agents that specialize or neighborhoods, is appreciated.

Try the site Galveston Association of Realtors and also on Houston Real Estate - Houston Homes, Houston Home Value and Houston Relocation and search by zip codes, I think Galveston is 77550 and 77551, not 100% sure. But Har does have Galveston things too.

There is also a website, GALVESTON.COM: Official Website of Galveston Island, Texas Tourism & Marketing

That has a real estate page with agencies listed there, you might try that as well.

Good luck on that. Galveston seems to be the land of haves and have-nots.

I've heard Hitchcock might have what you're looking for.... I know for a fact one can have a 1.25 acre lot with a 3200 sq ft home for $200k. So I'm sure there are reasonable rentals in that area.
