You should hang around more often

Judging by the people we know who moved to Tomball, Nana is right. Probably would no longer rent to the KKK because it just looks bad.

Went to Lowes in Tomball to pick up some flowers for my girls and an elderly lady was next to me looking at the same flowers. An older man (60ish) walked right up to the woman and told her to watch her handbag and then gave me a nasty look. To my surprise the old lady acknowledged the man with a look of disappointment and smiled at me as to offer a silent apology and went on about her business.

I live just south of Tomball in Spring near Vintage Park and Memorial Northwest. We purchased our home because of the mature neighborhoods and Klein ISD. It's been about 2.5 years in this home and I haven't really run into much blatant racism, but you'll see people try to avoid eye contact and be on there guard even when I'm with my daughters. This typically occurs with the older generations. Just venturing up into Tomball; I do feel a bit out of place at times, but for the most part I don't pay any attention. You may want to look into the Northwest side of Spring (completely different world then the East side of Spring)

Tomball is where the middle income white folks that don't want to live with minorities move to.

...but too much eye contact means that you're being watched and profiled in stores. So, where exactly is the fine line?

I'd probably have to agree with you. In my neighborhood there's a group of white people that hang out together all the time. I've never seen an minority in the group.

Don't know if I would say 'plenty of blacks' in Champion Forest. There are a handful in the area; the more East towards 45 the more minorities. But it is a nice area for the price and is in Klein.
