Hi, I am moving from out of state to Texas and I was wondering about which district is better to teach elementary school in. Killeen or Aldine? I ask because i'm in the interview process and I was wondering if I could get the opinion of people who live and know what it's like to live and/or teach in those districts.

I am a single mom so work life balance is important and I wouldn't want to be working in a particularly tough environment my first year teaching in Texas. Both districts offer wages that would allow me to live comfortably in good neighborhoods and in general live comfortable. Houston does offer significantly more money but the costs to live in safe neighborhoods is a little higher of which i'm willing to pay.

Any advice or information would be helpful in helping to steer me in the right direction to which is the best fit for me.
Thank you in advanced!!!

Kileen is a small military town. Houston is a huge city. You cant compare the two.

Aldine ISD is a low income, mostly Hispanic somewhat black district. If you have an affinity for working class Hispanic culture you might like teaching in the district.

I wonder if anybody here teaches in AISD schools.

Avoid Killeen at all costs. It is the armpit of Texas, nicknamed "The Dirty K". Ultimate front-gate town, with the pawn shops, title loan, and "massage parlors" to match.

My neighbor has been at Aldine for over 20 years. She is a reading specialist.

She considered moving to Klein in order to be closer to home. She would have had to take a serious pay cut, so decided to stay in Aldine.

Aldine serves low income students in a very large and diverse city. Killeen is small military town and not that great.
I taught in Aldine my first year of teaching and I liked it a lot. It was very challenging.
However, you would not want to live in Aldine.

As a person that grew up in Killeen....Go to Aldine. You'll thank me later.

Are you talking about Killeen, Texas or Klien ISD here in the Houston area? There is a big difference.

Aldine isn't exactly the best either. As stated low income area of Harris County.
