We moved to the Woodlands (E of 45) last year from Illinois with a 2 year lease so that we could check the area out before we buy. I am finding the area is SO different from when we visited 7 years ago-so many people working at the stores around here are surly and very impatient, and the everyday interactions with people I'm seeing aren't very polite either.
I miss that Southern charm we saw before..is it the area? although I love the "look" of the Woodlands, we would be willing to buy anywhere within reasonable driving distance of Intercon (hubby travels a lot on business) with decent schools.
Any ideas? Thanks!

This is the 4th largest city in the nation. You would need to move to the sticks, or maybe to another smaller southern city to experience any charm.

I was in Huntsville last weekend. Definitely no comparison to The Woodlands, but it was quite pleasant. You would find more 'Southern charm' in Huntsville. Supposedly they block of parts of their town square for holiday events. I was at the university for most of the day. It was way more laid back than I was expecting.

Any place is subject to change. Especially one that is popular like The Woodlands. The city that I live in now was a small town 10-15 years ago. Now is bursting at the seams with a population that surpasses The Woodlands. Along with that comes pushy, impatient people. It's just how it goes when a place grows at an accelerated rate.

You're most likely seeing the attitudes of all the transplants. If you had visited here before everyone and their brother moved here, you would have witnessed the kindness of the locals.

How is the area around Humble/Atascocita? I like the idea of being closer to the Gulf and water..

We were on the edges of Huntsville a few weeks ago to see the Sam Houston Statue and the prison museum. It looked like a nice town. Will check it out a bit more. Thanks!

We want to be close-ish to the Gulf, that's why we picked Houston, so hoping to stay in this general area. Thanks though!
