Thanks so much for reminding me of The Toddle House! My parents use to take us to the Shepherd location when I was a kiddo!

Loved that place. Would love to find anyone still alive/not in jail. will come back to this site to find out

I knew that there were two KITIRIKS and I have heard KTRK say that they were Orsak and Borah. I like them both but I didn`t cars too much for either Darrins (Bewitched). KTRK now seems to want us to remember only one KITIRIK and that is Orsak.

I'm visiitng from out of state and going down memory lane. Ate at the Hobbitt Hole today. And remembered Marfrelas, Michaelangelo's, Grenouille, and some Empanada House. And I have great memories from a bar/cafe on Hawthorne Street, I think. It was an old house with small tables, kind of dark. All around the seam where the walls meet the ceilings was a verse - some fable painted all around the rooms way up high. Does anyone know the name and verse? Or the empanada house? Those were the days!

Default Fun in Montrose

I'm visiting home from out of state and going down memory lane. Ate at the Hobbit Hole today (Gandolf sandwich, which was cutting edge back then). And remembered Michaelangelo's for romantic dates, Grenouille, the Marfrelas couches, and some wonderful Empanada House. What was the bar/cafe on Hawthorne that was in an old house. Small rooms, kind of dark, with a verse or fable that was painted all around the place by the seam where the walls meet the ceilings. Do you know the name of the place or the verse? The empanada house? Those were great days!

You are probably thinking of Marini's Empanada House. There used be one on Lower Westheimer, but now there are two locations.

That's it! Thanks. We used to think empanadas were health food because you order them without meat. The other place doesn't ring a bell? Gambrini's, Gambrinus, Lambringus....? My siblings all remember the same place but not the name.

Could it be Prufrock's?

Here's a link to a 1973 Texas Monthly article...an interesting era in Houston, for sure.
