Good afternoon!

Does anyone know how are you need to live from a school to be eligible for bus service?

Also, is there any opportunity to request a different school within same community to be eligible for bus service to that Elementary school?

By law districts have to bus students who live 2 miles away turn by turn. Some districts offer service for closer. I'd refer to your school district website for most accurate info.

Are 6 year olds expected to walk 2 miles to school? Absolutely not. As a parent we have to make arrangements to get our kids to school safely. Maybe that means carpool or paying for before/after school care. Or adjusting work schedules, asking a neighbor for help, or arrange a walker/biker buddy for your child. It's just one of those things parents have to do.

I live in Katy ISD. It used to be most nearly everyone was bus eligible. Possibly even across the street. But with population growth and not enough drivers to drive the buses the school district cut it. It's now 1 mile radius for secondary school for example. A bus actually comes in my neighborhood to pick up kids on the west side of the neighborhood, but I live 2 blocks closer to the school so my kids walk. Right past the bus stop that they aren't eligible for. It happens.

2 miles is about the normal for bus service, but like descovy said, some offer it for students that are closer. Cy Fair had bus service for all kids, then discontinued it several years ago for kids closer than 2 miles unless they had to cross a major road. It was reinstated a couple of years ago.

And if you can get your kids into another school in the area, it depends on the school district if they provide bus service. I know in Cy Fair if your kid does not go to their zoned school, you are responsible for their transportation. But I believe HISD does offer it for their magnet schools.

Living in eagle springs, your child will not be elegible for bus service to the elementary schools in the neighborhood, I believe only the middle school. Not sure about the high school. There are private bus services you can call and have your child taken. Or if your child will be in before/after school daycare somewhere like Children's Learning Adventure, etc., then those centers have bus services to and from the school back to their center. Otherwise your child will need to walk or ride their bike, or find some neighbors to carpool with. The neighbors are all great in ES and Han ES are there will be some other kids not far from you who your kid can carpool with.

The only kids who gets bussed to ASE are kids from Clayton's Corner. And I don't believe any busses go to ESE at all right now. They might in the future because I think Bridges and the Groves are zoned there until more schools are built.
