I'm a scaffolder by trade and just seen this.

I hope all the injured parties make a speedy recovery.

So far no fatalities. I think all but one have been treated and released. One is remaining in the hospital as of yesterday's evening news. Kind of you to express your thoughts and concern for houstonians from across the pond. Be safe. :-)

An educated guess is that the ties ( that tie the scaffold to the building ) have failed and quite possibly wasn't tested when they were put in. Shame it doesn't say why it happened

That's no problem t7 and thank you I will be

Most construction workers here are Hispanic and many illegal immigrants. Unfortunately, I think some cheap employers may use that to be lax in their safety precautions. But I don't know that was the case here, that was just a general opinion.

Problem is, Houston and Harris County have no laws requiring licensing of scaffolding contractors or inspection of scaffolding once it's installed!

Can't believe that!!! For such an obvious risk not just to the workers but the public also it's unreal. Even a ladder has to be inspected and signed off before use.

I've been told it's not really recognised as a trade as such compared to the uk ( and other countries) so I suspected they were not as tight on rules and regs but that is shocking.

Welcome to Texas! Seems there are several building trades in the state that don't require licensing or inspection. Texas is a right-to-work law state without much union support for training and safety standards.

Had this happened in NYC, the owners and installers would be under the jail.

I'm not there yet mate but thank you

I'm actually very well trained and actually having 12 years experience makes me smarter than the average bear when it comes to scaffolding so........ Hopefully something could be learned from me ( if they can understand my British accent/humour )
