Tolerant yes, under certain conditions.
I've seen people talk about it being gay friendly many times around City-Data, especially with the claim "Hey, we elected a lesbian for mayor! We're super progressive!"

Ironically, that mayor can be fired or rejected in housing for being gay in Houston. Judging by the responses, most Houston residents are proud of this.

Your demographic has, by far, the least amount to complain about. No one is taking a crap on your demographic, and in reference to this specific bill, I'm not sure what you're even talking about. Where was I racist??? I said nothing about race whatsoever. It's like you're in the wrong thread.
In a city that is only 25% white there is no way this proposition failed so decisively without substantial opposition in the minority community. So we can't merely fault "Straight white whatevers" for this defeat. I will be very interested in seeing the demographic breakdown of this vote.

WTF are you kidding? Didn't they re-elect a openly Gay Mayor?

The turnout was about 30%.

I suspect a pretty good turnout of minority church goers. We will know later today or tomorrow by precinct.

Absolutely. Discrimination can happen from any group against any group. Sometimes the best thing you can say about people is that they're at least consistent.

And then subsequently and overwhelmingly rejected nondiscrimination against every single gay or transgendered resident, including that mayor.

City data is not representative of real life. Anyone who thinks it is needs to turn off the internet and go outside.

The mayor and former comptroller had the blessing of the establishment. She did not even support Bill White.

The people who supported the mayor did not vote. The turnout was pitiful. As always. The churches got their folks all fired up about HERO. Look who made the runoff for mayor. That is what this whole thing was about.
The turnout for the runoff will be even less. Say hello to the new mayor, a white man.
