Default Outdoor Wedding

I was wondering if someone could recommend an outdoor area or park for a wedding in the Houston area. The wedding is being planned for July and we don't want to spend a whole lot of money for a very small wedding.

Also looking for a wedding photographer.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Roxy

Wow - outdoors in July? (IMHO) That could be brutal.
Sorry, I have no suggestions accept to say that you may want to rethink that... unless you don't mind your make-up melting and running down your face, your hair going limp, and possible thunder storms moving through, then go for it!

Congratulations! ~K~

You could get married in Galveston. That's close to the water and it's not as humid as Houston. There's a really nice hotel there, can't think of the name of it but it might have wedding there. You could also have your wedding on the beach in front of a hotel and then go to the hotel for the reception. If you look up Galveston online, I'm sure they would have the name of the famous hotel on there. Good luck!

I agree with the other posters regarding just how hot it will be here in July -- I almost made this mistake when I got married at the end of May in SC. We ended up with an indoor wedding and actually had to leave our outdoor area where we were taking pictures and finish them indoors because it was just too hot. We were so grateful that we ended up with an indoor wedding and reception.

Could you post if your looking for a space in Houston only or if you can travel to Galveston or some other area.

I think an evening wedding would not be too hot......what about that place with the peacock's? Valones?? (I know that isn't right but begins with a "V", I think!)

I asked my mom's group and got one response:

Joe Heiliger did my wedding and did a fabulous job! He is a little on the high side but way worth it. check him out. J. Heiliger Photography

Galveston is closer to the water and more humid than Houston.

Data:

Average Relative Humidity(%)

72% vs 64% overall. Not that you'll feel much of a difference in stickiness.

Galveston is a bit cooler in temperature though, doesn't usually get above 90.

If you are on a budget, I recommend Carolyn Jones. She did our family photos last summer, and she is REALLY good. She is trying to build her bridal portfolio and would probably give you are really good deal. She was with us for three or four hours, we paid no sitting fee, had about 100 shots from which to choose, and the whole thing cost us less than $300. Included in that was a CD of all pics, with full rights to reproduce, and we bought about three 8x10 prints and several 5x7's. She is very friendly and artistic too. We had a good time!

I do not recommend getting married outdoors in July. Not even at night. You will sweat to DEATH. I know this, because I got married July 30 in Key West, FL and it was the same conditions. If you must have it during the summer, and it's smaller than 50 people, I would say go with a Bed and Breakfast for your wedding. Then you have a choice of whether to do your own catering (which most allow you to do) or you can use the B&B for catering. Guests also have the option of mingling indoors or out on the grounds if they need a breather.

If I can make a recommendation for a budget cake--I'd find a Wilton cake class (a more advanced-level class) at a Michael's and ask the instructor if there is anyone in her classes that she would recommend to make a wedding cake for you. You will find some amazing talent there and for MUCH less than a fancy bakery. Tell the instructor how many people and what your budget is (usually by the serving--most bakeries are anywhere from $5 to $15 per serving so something around $2 per person would be reasonable to expect). Some of those students will JUMP at the chance--I know, b/c I took the class to make my in-law's anniversary cake and there were at least 3 other ladies in there that were planning to start their own special-occasion cake business. Some are really trying to build their business and will do a cake for practically NOTHING if you allow them to come photograph, etc. The other option with that is pay to have someone you know that is creative take the class to make the cake for you. A basketweave is a classic wedding cake design and easy to do (though time consuming) even though it looks hard. It is very forgiving:

Buy a few stargazer lilies, some greenery, babies breath, champagne grapes and *poof* you have a gorgeous wedding cake.

Just remember if it is at night, you are expected to provide dinner. If it is afternoon, you can get away quite easily with cake and delicate foods like finger sandwiches (cucumber, salmon, etc), stuffed cherry tomatoes, prosciutto-wrapped melon balls, etc... all things that you can do yourself or have your friends do. You can have a champagne toast, but for drinks make punch and have coffee/tea/water with all the fixins.

Whatever you do, make sure your serving tables have white (or light) cloth covers. No bare tables!! Decorate with pearl garland, rose petals, and lots and lots of tealights. Easy and cheap!

Okay, that's my unsolicited two cents on a wedding on a budget!! LOL!

You mean Vargo's? Probably a cool place for a night wedding.
